Earlier this month, I wrote a long-form diary about everything I ate based off The Grub Street Diet feature in NY Mag. The post received the most hits and replies I’ve ever gotten on this newsletter, so I did it AGAIN. This edition spans Valentine’s Day and features rice krispies, Fruitein, South Shore bar pizza, Super Bowl snacks, a trip to the animal hospital, and SO MUCH MORE.
If you missed my original Grub Street Diet, you can read it here.

I wake up around 8, pound a cold seltzer, and eat a rice krispy treat the size of my head for breakfast. Rice krispies are a real mainstay for me. In grad school, my favorite way to decompress was to get really high and make a big batch of rice krispies. I wouldn’t even pour them into a pan. I would just mix the marshmallow and cereal together, and eat it with a spoon. It was my calming goblin meal. There’s so much to love about rice krispies—the ingredients cost almost nothing and you get a large quantity of portable, sweet-but-not-too-sweet snacks that don’t really go stale. I make them all the time in the winter. I use half a stick of butter and let the marshmallows burn a little because stress adds complexity. I always serve them in huge, rectangular slices that Liz calls BIG KRISPY.
As far as morning coffee, I’m into the Natamaya roast from Ruby Coffee Roasters. I don’t have a lot of language to describe coffee, but this is a butch roast that’s nutty and not too acidic. It’s very steady.
I do some work, take the dogs on a LONG walk, and eat Greek yogurt as a snack. My ultimate yogurt is the Chobani coffee flavor, which tastes like cheesecake. Lots of people (including Liz) think it’s gross but go to any store that carries it and it will be sold out or about to sell out. It’s a popular yogurt!!
I go to the gym and do my little weight routine. Afterwards, I slurp down a protein drink. I’m currently working my way through a tub of Fruitein. Fruitein tastes and smells like poison Kool Aid, but it really does prevent me from feeling dizzy and sick after strenuous activity. Also, the label is very “graphic design is my passion“ with Dr. Bronner’s-adjacent cult language, so lots to love!! I also drink it when I’m sick or getting my period—anytime my body feels crusty.
I make chicken, broccoli, and rice for as a late lunch. I use Soy Vay teriyaki sauce. It’s the teriyaki sauce I trust. Liz gets home and we hang out before going to see Magic Mike’s Last Dance as an early Valentine’s Day date. Magic Mike is a franchise that celebrates women’s sexuality and working class artists, and I will always support it.
