Let’s check in with the Real Housewives of New York and Jenna Lyons. This episode is named “Nothing Vanilla About Anguilla“ because it follows the wives comparing nipple colors and joking about “virgin“ cocktails on a Girls Trip™️ to the Caribbean island of Anguilla. The episode begins with everyone getting VERY dressed up to go to a casual dining establishment called the Sun Shine Shack, where they are unceremoniously seated at a picnic table lit by gas lamps. Ubah says that the gas lamps remind her of her childhood in Africa and shares that when her mom was a little girl, her family couldn’t afford the oil to light their lamps so they just went to bed when it got dark out. “Awwww, that’s sweet,“ says Brynn.
Next, Jessel stirs the pot by bringing up Brynn’s behavior at Erin’s anniversary/vow renewal ceremony, even though the wives have already fought about this precise issue six ways from Sunday. Ubah honestly seems a little cranky in this episode and asks Sai how she would feel if Brynn said those things to her husband. Sai says she wouldn’t give two fucks—by which she means, “Don’t bring me into this, Ubah!!“
In her one-on-one, Ubah says that she’s standing up for married women everywhere and that she knows how she would feel if Brynn flirted with her husband. Ubah isn’t married, but is seems like she’s speaking from scorned women experience like this women I once met at a Barnes and Noble Cafe who kept referring to herself as “a victim of adultery.”
Brynn says to Erin, “I do want to fully apologize…for saying that your party is boring.“ Readers, I laughed out loud. I love these little snipes. As a mental health lesbian who’s mostly friends with other mental health lesbians, I really miss out on these kind of sneaky, straight women insults. Last winter I was at an artist’s residency and I was telling one of the other artists how I’m pretty shy, so it’s really draining for me to speak in public and give readings and she said, “Oh, do you have to do a lot of public speaking for your newsletter?“
!!!!!!!!!!!
ANYWAYS.
