re bulk gifts: back when i was a child and my extended family did secret santa, my wealthy uncle would always, without fail, year after year, buy his assigned person a case of grapefruits. whenever this came to our immediate family it was like...okay one grapefruit is nice and now this is a menace

We were just talking about how grapefruits interfere with a lot of medications lol and aren't a good gift for the elderly. Personally I really associate grapefruits and cantaloupes with 90s diet culture, the Snackwells of the fruit world

haha I'm in the very small percentage of grapefruit-lovers. I'm like, "give me two cases of the good fruit, Uncle Money!"

i used to like the flavor if not the fruit and then i developed a mild citrus flavor allergy plus the medication thing unfortch

now a bag of clementines, that's a gift!

I was gifted a case of mangoes for my birthday once. 10/10 and way better than grapefruit lol

being a boring lesbian who only likes practical gifts is both soooo fun and sooo hard. whenever people are like “what is the best gift you’ve ever received” i’m like my water bottle from my girlfriend and i MEAN IT !!

also re: women lighthouse keepers, i just got to visit the lighthouse museum in key west and i spent so long in there (i guess people normally spend like 10ish minutes in the museum part and more in the lighthouse) that they sent someone back to see if i was still there but there were so many crazy women lighthouse keepers! i was obsessed! now i need this book…

This article has everything: a meme that could be a metaphor for bad relationships looking good in the wrong situation, “straight-size dog clothing” (I almost died in fat delight and painful understanding as a former dog guardian), Easy Beauty (immediately went on my list), and little Louis in the cutest costume EVER.

P.S. I will now be the proud owner of your zines soon! :) Thank you for the reminder. Do you ever sign them?

I do sign them with the exception of like, the first few weeks they come out and I'm overwhelmed with orders. I will sign yours :)

Also, any Louis updates you’re comfy sharing? Is he finally out of the woods? I think about his health!

Louis is doing really well *knock on wood* Thank you for asking. When we first moved into this house, all the fur around his eyes fell out and then came back when it frosted, so I think a new allergy to something growing in the yard? He is a delicate orchid. We took Weezy to the ER last weekend because she had a UTI, but she is doing a lot better with antibiotics and will get re-tested in a few weeks.

If it’s not one thing, it’s another with pets!! I’m so glad Louis is doing better despite his bout with his fur falling out. You’ve been in the same state for a little while now IIRC, so it’s perplexing that moving house was when his body chose to have that reaction. May it never happen again!

And oh no, Weezy…! I’m glad she’s on the mend, too… Poor pups. 🥲 My kitty had an IBD flareup recently, too — must be something about this time of year. I’ll (ineffectually, but y’know) keep the pups in my thoughts!!

far from the point of this article but the fucking lightbulb aisle!!! i’m a a hardware store dyke but i despise the lightbulbs! watts, lumens, volts, the obscure naming system for sizes and types of bulbs… i got stressed just reading that sentence 😂

Thank you to Grace Rother for sending me here. This was delightful and I felt very seen. Yes I might be giving a carved spoon to a family member this year, yes my partner and I have already received our nice ass olive oil from their parents. Also I'll be giving my dad and aunt dried mushrooms. I might be a lesbian who loves the boring gifts but they are just CORRECT.

I knew I could trust you when I clicked on the "nice ass olive oil" link and it wasn't graza. I also just bought the Pegacorn Press calendar for my sister who requested a calendar for Christmas so thank you for the rec! :)

everything I know about olive oil and good food comes from my girlfriend. I ate Tostinos before I met her!! Glad you got the calender!

I have a Kobo that I bought early in the pandemic exactly because it’s an e-reader that’s not a Kindle and I am still so excited about being able to get library books on it. And I love practical gifts, my favorite gifts of all time have been a keychain and a mug and recently someone gave me an Owala water bottle, which I thought I wouldn’t use because I had never cared about water being cold before but am now obsessed with.
