Ok spot on spot on. One thing tho is that Darell—who she outed—is a Black man. So does change things a bit but just a note!! Love the recaps, hate this show.

Ugh the Carrie shit all bothered me so much like seriously we’re still doing this in the year twenty twenty three?

I agree nobody would probably care about Alice outing that guy, but I did think it was slightly hilarious to see her telling Sophie that she’s had it so much harder being gay than her, as a rich white queer who’s never had to be in the closet. I thought Alice was always out of touch on this fact - for example in the original show, I didn’t care she outed that guy, but I did care that it put Tasha’s livelihood at risk and she didn’t seem to think about the difference in her and Tasha’s lived experiences.

Also last week they said nobody says sexting but I thought everybody said that, but I don’t know anyone who says “the anti-gay f slur”?? Am I out of touch or is the show gaslighting me??

My gf said this show feels like those old TV show episodes where you'd have to spot the mistakes and call in to win a sweepstakes. Also, the way Dre's drummer "spins" the drumstick while playing sent me into absolute orbit.

Honestly, at this point, I just want the L Word to be about Carrie and Misty and all the older lesbian cuties.

I do hate that as our one fat character, Carrie had this "be healthier or you'll die" storyline. It's so annoying and like, she bowls and actively works on her sobriety so give homegirl a break. She's doing enough.

Funnily enough, right after college I was the Finley to my own Carrie/Misty lezzie couple and it was everything. I do like seeing Finley in this dynamic as opposed to hanging out at gay basecamp mooning over Sophie all day.

Also, Sophie needs a storyline of her own. Like, if we have this big revelation in the musical, let's follow through and see babygirl actually grow and do something just for her.

It's actually so bananas that we are 9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! episodes in, out of 10, and we're still at the point we are at with the angie/teacher plot line. Jordan Hull is so talented, here are some free ideas that I, not a tv writer, have come up with that could have been angie's storyline this season: her ho phase is she kisses multiple of her dorm floormates and it's awkward because they always run into each other at the dining hall and the awkward events the RA plans, and eventually angie and bella start making their own version of the chart. part way through she's like, having a ho phase has been fun, but also tiring and people keep wanting to date me because i am emotionally mature and make them feel listened to, but i'm not trying to be tied down !!! im in my ho phase!!!!!!!!! maybe part way through she and bella kiss but theyre lIke HAHA WE ARE JUST FRIENDS and then its a will they wont they situation for a while while they continue to date other people and bella has mediocre hookups with random frat dudes. why couldn't we maybe see bella being the token straight friend in angie's little queer friend group...until she realizes she's NOT!!!??? maybe she has a hot gay RA and hits on them, but they reject her because THAT'S AWKWARD. idk just some FREE IDEAS!!!!. college is such a site of kissing and low stakes drama. give me a story line about drama in the campus LGBTQ organization student leadership or "do a group project" they did not need to do all this for angie to waste her whole first semester at college chasing the most inappropriate and unremarkable man in her vicinity

I remembered Daryl Brewer being Black which maybe complicates the outing a bit more as he was already socially marginalized and in a generally homophobic public-facing profession (sportsball, but google told me a diff acronym-- NBA) but yeah it's always interesting how the L Word clearly wants to be edgy and ~get political~ and then never quite goes all the way there & just stops at kinda bland, broadly digestible mainstream liberal takes and stereotypes that feel pretty out of touch. Tasha coming back could have potentially opened discussions about being a police officer as a Black woman amid the BLM movement but ok she's a firefighter now getting a cat out of a tree, lol. PJ!

Laughing so hard about you writing that Bette is the LEAST LIKELY person to be buying duty-free candy in bulk, who are these characters?!!?! Do they have new writers for every episode?? Love that Bette's silent zen retreat is finally paying off & love your recaps <3 "important representation" bits send me every time <3

When i see the plots of Alice and Angie, it feels like the writers or show runners are white male boomers who don't take seriously anything that has been discussed in the last 10 years around power abuse, metoo, having a platform and the responsibility that comes with it. I have the impression when i watch this season that they portray those issues as if millenials and the younger audience are blowing things out of proportion and we need to understand how the world works.

Like Alice saying she had it so much harder than Sophie and Dani, when she is being called out for having outed a black man. What about Daryl , we can be sure he definitely had it harder than Alice and they miss the point entirely its so cringe. Anti gay f slur my ass. In the Uk this is how you ask for a cigarette ffs.

And Angie returning straight to Hendrix because now he isnt her teacher??? again the show seems to put the blame on Angie in a relationships with very clear power dynamics and the age gap makes this even creepier. Whyyy just give her a good queer story with her roomie.

Its not even good entertainment at this point it seems really out of touch with reality. I have seen tv shows that arent queer centric but have a more realistic representation of queer characters and their struggle than this one.

LOL "Not Dre writing a song in the morning and performing it with a band later that night." so on point. Also what do we think the odds are that Angie and Bella actually hook up in the finale....?

Personally, my favourite thing about the whole episode was that Maribel and Micah weren't in it.

It was all over the place, otherwise. One hilarious lowlight for me was Sophie's little finger pointing girl-boss montage (I'm guessing this is her 'I have no voice' storyline from the musical playing out) before putting on a show that seemed to contain 3 minutes of Margaret Cho and 45 minutes of Dre. Speaking of whom, I find that character so overrated; they just come across as stoned the whole time.

Also, is it just me or is Kate Moennig's acting a little flat this season? I don't know if it's because she's playing off Jamie Clayton for the most part but I've found some of her lines really lacking energy. I can't wait for Tess to f*** off tbh; I have empathy for her but there's zero growth in her character at all and I just don't think JC can act anywhere near as well as some of the cast. Plus, oh look, another femme character pointing out their butch/andro/masc partner's flaws while having no insight into their own!

I did think KM did an awesome job of directing the episode with the rubbish she was given. And I didn't even entirely hate Finley; Carrie brings out the best in her.

Finally, I'm all for ZenBette but her saying 'pits and bits'... no way. Too far.

Man I'm going to miss these recaps. I couldn't wait for the episode to finish just to get over here, and I'm so excited for your run down of the wedding.

Is this it, do we think? Can we see another season? I didn't think they'd get this one!

How’re they gonna queerbait (with Angie & Bella) on a queer show??
